Privacy policy
This policy explains what Jop Scholar keeps about lecturers, students and visitors, and the choices you have.
Last updated 11 October 2026.
Who we are
Jop Scholar is a learning workspace for Nigerian universities, polytechnics and colleges. The public site, lecturer workspace and student portal are operated from Lagos, Nigeria. Questions about this policy can be sent to info@jopscholar.com.
What we collect
- Account details you enter: name, email address, and a password that is stored only as a hash.
- Lecturer profile details: title, phone, institution and department, when you provide them.
- Student details: matric number, institution, department, level and an optional passport photograph.
- Academic records created in a workspace: courses, attendance, assessment answers, scores, materials and messages.
- Technical records needed to run the service: sign-in session, security cookies, and the cookie choice you save on this browser.
Why we use it
We use this information to open your account, keep a lecturer's records separate from another lecturer's records, and show students the courses, attendance and results that belong to them. We also use it to protect the service against misuse and to reply when you contact us.
The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 applies to personal data we process in Nigeria. Where the UK or EU General Data Protection Regulation applies to a visitor, the same limits in this policy still govern what we collect. We do not sell personal data.
Who can see it
A lecturer can see the students, scores and files in that lecturer's own workspace. A student can see the courses they have joined and the attendance and results recorded for them. Jop Scholar staff can open an account when support or administration requires it. We do not pass academic records to advertisers.
Cookies
Essential cookies keep you signed in, protect forms, and remember whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies. Optional cookies are a preference only. The site does not load advertising or analytics cookies. You can change the choice in the banner, or clear cookies in your browser. Read more on this page, or use the banner again after clearing the stored choice.
How long we keep it
Account and academic records stay while the account is in use, because attendance, scores and results are part of the academic record. A password reset link expires after 60 minutes. You may ask us to correct or delete an account by writing to the contact address above. Some records may be kept where a lecturer or institution still needs them for an academic session.
Your rights
You may ask for a copy of your personal data, ask for a correction, or ask for deletion where the law allows it. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. We will respond to a request sent to the contact address on this page.
